Style Ideas: How to Get the Eclectic Boho Glam Look

For this month’s Style Ideas we had a chat to the fabulous interiors blogger Kimberly Duran from the award-winning Swoon Worthy blog. Kimberly has been writing about transforming her Edwardian home since she moved in, sharing loads of inspiration about her obsession with maximalist interiors. In this post, we’re finding out just how we can get the look too, as Kimberly talks us through her staple ‘Eclectic Boho Glam’ style.

How to Get the Eclectic Boho Glam Look

by Kimberly Duran

When people ask me how I would describe my style, the three words I almost always use are eclectic, boho and glam. At first glance, those three words may not have much in common and can seem like an odd mix but by combining elements from each, I’ve created a unique style and one that reflects my personality.

Today, I’m going to share with you how I created this style in my living room and how you too can get that eclectic boho glam look.

Let’s start by breaking down each of the elements.

Eclectic

When we think of eclectic style, it’s all about combining furniture and accessories from different eras to create a cohesive mix. I live in an Edwardian home that has a lot of the same elements as Victorian properties with high ceilings and cornicing, big windows and wood floors.

Updating some of the elements to give them a slightly more contemporary twist brings the property up to date whilst still being sympathetic to the age of the property.

Using a pale grey paint colour on the walls and replacing the flooring (which unfortunately was beyond repair when we moved in), we chose a wood flooring in a very dark stain to create contrasts of light and dark. The dark flooring has a soft sheen and creates an elegant space that lends well to the age of the property.

There’s also a wide range of different styles that are represented in this single room. There’s the classic shape of the chesterfield sofa, the laid-back mid-century woven chairs, a 1930’s TV cabinet updated with paint and mirror glass and the coffee table is quite contemporary.

To keep things consistent rather than chaotic, the colour scheme is repeated throughout the space with elements of cranberry, pink, green and gold repeated throughout. I also use velvet repeatedly from the couch and small settee to the curtains and cushions. The backs of all the furniture are also relatively the same height. These elements combined help to pull the room together.

Bohemian style has also always appealed to me and this is reflected in some of the natural and tactile materials that I use in my living room. I’ve always loved leopard print and the velvet bolster cushion adds a touch of the exotic to my design along with the bold tropical wallpaper.

The cowhide rug and the goat hide throws give the room texture and warmth while the plants provide an organic element along with colour and form.

Glam

I adore warm metallics and believe they bring so much glamour into a space and as a result, gold and brass are repeating elements in my home. I love its reflective quality and the way it bounces light around a room.

Gold was always an aspirational metal and long ago, it was only the rich who could afford it. Today, gold finishes are much more widely affordable but the metal still retains a certain aspirational element and lends itself well to glamorous design schemes, even if your bank balance isn’t quite up to royal standards!

If you’d like to get a little Eclectic Boho Glam Style into your home, I’ve identified a few key pieces that will help you in the process.
