Parquet takes the floor…
Herringbone flooring was born in the grandest of settings and has been associated with prestige ever since. Not only does it evoke a traditional feel, but by bringing wood of various shades and details together in beautiful patterns, it’s truly inspired by nature.
As interior design has evolved to seek inspiration from the past, herringbone has found a new calling. And in 2017, we saw this trend truly take hold.
The style’s popularity has soared, sought after for its traditional warm shades and now even more so in light, contemporary designs. Natural oak is loved for its steadfast, homely feel while whites and greys have brought herringbone into modern settings.
OUR STATS TELL THE STORY
We’ve seen a huge level of engagement with the Woodpecker collection of Goodrich parquet floors. Our top 11 most saved Pinterest images are of Goodrich and the most popular (Goodrich Whitened Oak) has been engaged with more than 45,000 times. Our most ‘liked’ Instagram post is Goodrich Coffee Oak and ‘parquet’ has been the most popular search term on our website since the start of 2017.
We’ve also recorded a staggering 184% year-on-year increase in sample orders for Goodrich floors with Whitened again the most popular, showing the biggest increase out of the range. And this translated to a 60% increase in revenue from the collection throughout 2017. The classic Natural and Coffee shades were up there in the top 3 for sales but it was Whitened that once again made the biggest contribution. With sales for this product more than doubling year-on-year from 2016, the elegant shade has become one of the most desirable designs in our catalogue. It reflects the trend for light, modern homes that mix classic design with a contemporary twist.

And it’s not just at Woodpecker that we’ve spotted this trend. Along with many interior design experts, Pinterest have recognised herringbone flooring as one of their top 100 trends for 2018, after seeing a 131% increase in searches for ‘herringbone patterns’ last year. Google tells the same story, with searches for ‘herringbone flooring’ increasing 83% from 2016.
Parquet is without a doubt on-trend and we’re confident that it’ll be an even stronger contender in our catalogue this year.
THE GOODRICH COLLECTION
Goodrich Natural Oak
Our parquet collection offers a diverse range of traditional warm oaks, contemporary light shades and rustic finishes. Expanding the range, the grey Feather Oak, Haze Oak chevron and sawn blocks were introduced in Autumn last year and are already showing signs of becoming some of our best-selling parquet floors.
Boards are brushed to enhance the natural beauty of oak’s character and matt lacquered for enduring protection. Tongue and groove allows for traditional fitting methods and gives the flexibility to create single or double herringbone designs.
