The Beauty of Parquet Flooring
We’ll never tire of seeing a parquet installation, especially when it’s paired with exquisite décor. Katy and James have been busy transforming their home; a Grade 2 listed building and former lodge house to the well-known Witley Court and Gardens in Worcestershire. And what a project it is, the character and beauty of the building is truly awe inspiring. In this blog, Katy talks us through her renovation journey and why they chose Woodpecker Flooring…
We heard about Woodpecker Flooring through our local builders merchants and we chose them over other brands because their products are high quality and at the right price. Choosing the right floor was a long process, it had to be the right fit and we saw countless samples from different brands. But ultimately, it came down to two styles from Woodpecker and we were torn between their Goodrich Ecru Oak and Goodrich Feather Oak. After much deliberation, we decided on Ecru Oak as it was slightly warmer and it complemented the aesthetic of the house beautifully.
In total we purchased 80m2 of Goodrich Ecru Oak to cover our living room, dining room, hall and reception room.
Luckily, James and I have the same taste when it comes to home décor and style which as you can imagine, saves us a lot of stress! We love traditional design with a modern element and are somewhat obsessed with quality and detail. Which is why the quality of flooring was a big deciding factor, it was so important to choose the right floor.
The house is a Grade 2 listed building and former lodge house to Witley Court and Gardens, now looked after by English Heritage. We renovated the original house and added a modern glass fronted extension. Our aim has always been to retain the character of the original building, embrace the modern feel of the extension, but at the same time ensure they both feel connected.
A lot of thought has gone into the design of the decor to ensure it’s 100% right and there are a number of materials and fittings we used to help elevate and complement the flow of the house – the flooring being one of these, a crucial aspect of the design. As well as the continuation of flooring and light fittings throughout the downstairs area, we added traditional elements into the extension such as a shaker style kitchen and included modern elements into the original house in the form of crittall doors which lead from the hallway into both the dining room and utility room.
We’re absolutely delighted we chose Woodpecker flooring for our project. The finished look is fantastic and everyone who visits the house comments on the beauty of the flooring. It also works brilliantly with the underfloor heating we installed in the extension which is an added bonus in the colder months.
Everyone at Woodpecker has been a pleasure to talk to, and I think our first delivery even came with some ginger biscuits which made our fitters very happy!
