Exquisite Period Home Transformation With Goodrich Parquet
We love seeing transformations, especially when they’re as beautiful as this one. Woodpecker was recommended to Alex by her fantastic joiner who was responsible for all of her woodwork throughout the house, as well as several contacts on Instagram. And we’re so pleased she’s happy with the finished look – everything about the room is simply dreamy. Alex talks us through her renovation…
We are DIY enthusiasts currently renovating our Victorian house in Leeds and we’re doing as much as we can ourselves. We also have a two year old daughter (who is over the moon to finally have a living room to run around in)!
The finished look featuring Woodpecker Goodrich Espresso
Prior to laying the floor, the room needed new electrics, windows, plasterboard and plastering due to damp. And with regards to the floor installation itself, we had to level the floor with a combination of plywood and self-levelling compound.
The original room prior the renovation
To enhance the character of the room, we added panelling, created a stone hearth (using paving stones from our front garden) and we also restored the fireplace to create a wonderful period feature.
The room taking shape during construction
We used some of the parquet planks to create a border around the room for a more finished look. We’ve experimented with a combination of antique and modern styles, respecting the house’s period features but adding contemporary twists where we can… This is one of the reasons why we loved Woodpecker’s range of flooring.
A parquet border with Goodrich Espresso Oak
I found it very hard to find a dark parquet that ticked all of the right boxes (the perfect colour, a matt finish and a textured wood grain) which is probably why I ordered so many samples – I ordered around 15-20 from different websites! And many of which were immediately discarded as I instantly knew they weren’t right.
I knew Goodrich Espresso was the one for me when the sample came through. The size was perfect and the tone was warm and homely, yet sophisticated. The matt finish made it feel contemporary and I loved the texture of the natural grain in the wood with the subtly different shades of each plank.
The finished look with a combination of traditional and modern features
We are truly over the moon with the finished result and we absolutely love the product. It feels elegant and contemporary and yet marries beautifully with the room’s original period features. The information guide made it easy to design the border and let us be creative in the space. Our only regret is that we didn’t know about it before we installed the flooring in the rest of the house! The living room has been on hold for a long time (four years in total!) so we’re absolutely delighted to have a result that fits so perfectly in with the rest of the house.
