Top interior trends for 2021
What a year we’ve had! This time last winter none of us could have predicted how much time we’d have been spending at home in 2020. There’s no doubt that the events of the past year have influenced what people will be focusing their design choices on in 2021 – a desire to have a connection to nature within the home, and a celebration of individual style are at the forefront of the interior trends that we have unearthed.
EARTHY TONES AND NATURAL COLOURS

Think bringing in the tones and texture of the earth is a bit “hippy”? Think again. This gorgeous kitchen uses a beautiful variety of wood and stone finishes to a chic and luxurious effect. Natural light pours through the skylight, so the designer hasn’t worried about using some darker colours to make the large space still feel intimate, and the window to the garden stands out like it’s a work of art.
We’ve noticed that lots of you are loving our Harlech Rustic Oak floors, and we think they would work beautifully with this look.
COTTAGECORE REFINED

If you love a bit of character and nostalgia, but don’t want to go all out with the borderline-chintz fabrics and antiques that comes with the full Cottagecore movement, then this look could be your new go-to. Great for if you already own a property with some character, you can play with strong vintage colours, natural textures, and plants to create a subtle interior vibe of idyllic rural relaxation.
Looking for a natural, more character feel from your floor? Take a look at our Berkeley Cottage Oak.
DRIED FLOWERS
Flooring featured clockwise from left: Oxwich Herringbone Coffee Strand Bamboo, Goodrich Cotton Oak, Harlech Cognac Oak
Bringing nature indoors is a key feature of many design looks for 2021, but none more so than the trend utilising dried flowers. When treated correctly and not made with harmful chemicals, dried flowers are a fantastically eco-friendly way of bringing natural beauty into your home. Depending on the quality of the flowers, they last for months – even many years – so save you money and the environment from multiple deliveries of fresh flowers. Win-win!
If you’re dreaming of a wood floor but you’re conscious of the environmental factors, Bamboo flooring may be the perfect choice for you. Not only does it have a luxurious wooden feel but it’s also incredibly sustainable because bamboo is actually a fast-growing grass which fully replenishes in 5 years. (All our bamboo comes from panda-free zones too!) With its own grain pattern, it’s formed into hard-wearing boards which offer the same natural look and qualities as wooden flooring. Take a look at our Oxwich bamboo range if your interest is piqued.

2020 has been the year of working from home – so, naturally the home office is playing a starring role in the design trends of 2021. We all know the home offices we aspire to (see above left) but if you’ve had to make an office out of whatever space you have available then you are not alone there. If yours is yet to be shown a little love, there are some ingenious set-ups to be found to inspire you. From chic antique desks subtly blending into the living room décor to under-stairs studies that are small but perfectly formed, you will spot a lot more attention being paid to working from home spaces. So long messy spare room… hello sleek and sexy study.
Not everyone is lucky enough to have a soaring-ceilinged space with large windows, but if you do and you want to replicate that bright and airy parquet floor, then take a look at our ever-popular Goodrich Salted Oak.
BLUE STILL RULES

Pantone’s colour of the year in 2020 was Classic Blue and it’s shown no sign of falling out of favour in 2021. From vintage looks filled with fifty shades of blue in all kinds of textures and patterns, to modern chic living spaces where the dark blue is set off by pale woods, or classic kitchens where the counters are more of a style statement than a boring functional cabinet. Wherever you look, blue is still there – and we think it’s blooming beautiful.
The other wonderful thing about blue is it goes with all kinds of wooden floors, from our Oxwich Herringbone Natural Strand, to our Berkeley Rugged Oak.
RATTAN, WICKER AND CANE

Rattan, cane and wicker are making a huge comeback and are sure to be a feature of 2021 interiors. They bring gorgeous natural texture to a home, and can feel modern and boho or luxurious and vintage depending on how you deploy them. If you’re using them to get a beachy boho vibe in your house, then a gorgeous sandy coloured floor is going to be the perfect neutral palette to build your interiors from.
If you’re hoping to replicate the look from the nursery above with lots of natural woven textures, then our Harlech White Oiled Oak is sure to complement your design choices.
BRING ON THE ANTIQUES
Images clockwise from left: York Tawny Oak, Chepstow Antique Oak, Berkeley Century Pine
Although it’s not a brand new trend and antiques have always been a feature of popular interior design, 2021 will nonetheless see vintage pieces feature. A desire to have interest and beauty inside the home, regardless of age, is more important than ever after a year of time spent mostly indoors!
Antique or vintage furniture comes with a story, told through imperfections or a use that has since found itself on the back-burner in the modern world. But they can be re-loved or repurposed to suit today’s environment. A writing desk becomes the perfect laptop station, a workshop chest of drawers becomes a quirky drinks table, and you can take great joy in telling anyone who asked where you found your latest vintage gem.
If you’re looking for a floor that has a story to tell, but want the ease of fitting that can’t be found with reclaimed wood, order your free sample of our Berkeley Century Pine.
