Woodpecker is a family-run business with a heritage in the timber industry that goes back three generations. Our company was founded by Bruce Ker in 1975. He was a skilled craftsman who loved teaching people how to work with wood. His son Nelson carried on the tradition, focusing the business on woodworking machinery.
In 2003, Nelson Ker took that huge reserve of woodworking and mechanical experience, and applied it to manufacturing high quality flooring. Understanding the different tree species, honing the grading process, and using centuries old techniques to expertly finish every floor – these are all skills our company has worked hard to perfect over the years.
Looking after the environment is important to us, so we only use wood with FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®) or PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forests) certification. By choosing our timber responsibly, Woodpecker flooring isn’t just beautiful - we can guarantee that it’s ethically sourced.
Selecting, stacking, drying, kilning, cutting and finishing – at every stage of the Woodpecker process we aim to produce the toughest flooring, which we back up with a 25-year warranty. The result is flooring that will bring a warm and radiant atmosphere your home now, and for many years to come.
Since the very beginning, we’ve been passionate about working with wood. Here’s a brief history of Woodpecker…
Trymwood was founded by Bruce Ker, a lawyer who gave up the profession to follow his passion – woodworking. A true craftsman, he set up a workshop teaching people joinery and woodturning.
Nelson Ker joined his father in the business at the age of 16, and became interested in selling woodworking machinery.
The Trymwood name was established.
Nelson Ker revived the old Trymwood name and started Trymwood Machinery Sales.
Woodpecker began manufacturing wood flooring, and Kenton Floors was acquired. Darwyn Ker (now our MD) began working there after school devoting his free time for his passion - woodwork.
Nelson decided to focus the business on the manufacturing of wood and the machinery side of the business was sold.
Woodpecker Flooring undertook a rebrand to match their driving ambition and to truly reflect their relationship to nature and values.
